How to Set Up a Wakeboard

How to Set Up a Wakeboard

Do you want to learn how to set up your own wakeboard? You've come to the right place. Wakeboards can be as personalized or as versatile as you want them to be. It all depends on how you set them up.

Wakeboarding is a great water sport to enjoy in the summer. All levels can have fun on a wakeboard out of a boat. Before you head out to the lake, read this article to learn how to properly set up your board.

Selecting Bindings

The first step in setting up your wakeboard is choosing the right pair of bindings for you. You have a few options here.

Open-Toe Bindings

One option is open toe bindings. This is great when multiple people are using the same board.

These types of bindings usually cover a range of foot sizes. This range can range from size 8 to 12, depending on the model.

If you plan on sharing your board with multiple people, open toe bindings are a great choice. Be sure to check out the sizing range of different models to find the best option for you and your family.

Closed-Toe Bindings

The next option is toe-lock bindings. This model is suitable for people who don't plan on sharing their board with others.

These bindings, like shoes, are usually designed for only one specific foot size.

Toe-lock bindings are a great choice for intermediate to advanced skiers, as they offer a more precise fit and more control. This is recommended if you plan on doing moves like flips or spins.

Determining a Stance that Fits Your Style

The next step is to determine where the bindings will be placed on the board. Most wakeboards have multiple locations for the bindings to be screwed in. Some have fixed holes and some have a track system.

Either way, you can change the settings to suit your style.

Goofy or Regular

First you need to determine which is your dominant foot:

  • Regular : Left front leg
  • Goofy : Right front leg

If you are a beginner, here is a simple method:

If you shoot with your right foot more often (for example, in soccer), you are probably a right-footer.

This isn't a hard and fast rule, but it's a good starting point. It's best to try both to see which is more comfortable for you.

Adjusting Your Stance

Once you've determined whether you're a Goofy or a Regular, you can set the bindings on the board.

It's best to start by placing the boots in the center of the inserts or in the middle of the rail system. Then you can adjust it based on your style.

Once you find the right distance, adjust the bindings as close to the center of the wakeboard as possible. This will make your ride more stable and comfortable behind the boat.

Adjusting Your Bindings

The final step is to fine-tune the angles. This angle will vary from person to person, but there is a standard starting point.

For beginners, the best position is usually 12 and 6 degrees .

Most wakeboard bindings are calibrated to make them easy to adjust.

  • 12 degree angle: for the outside of each foot
  • 6 degree angle: for the inner part of the legs

We recommend starting with this standard setup. Then, as you gain more experience, you can adjust it to suit your riding style.

Time To Rip

Now that your wakeboard is ready, it's time to get behind the boat and have some fun.

Use your board and adjust it to your liking over time. One important note: Be sure to check the binding screws before each ride, as they can become loose.

Now it's time to enjoy your wakeboard. If you have any questions, please contact us.
